About Me

Hello! I’m April Staroak, the creator of Awakening Ouroboros. I identify as a queer, gender fluid (she/they pronouns), pagan/witch, Creatrix, energy worker and walker between the worlds. I have always been sensitive to the “Unseen” world and able to see/sense things that many others often do not. I have never had to question whether or not ghosts were real because they have always been a part of my life since I grew up in a haunted house and in my adult life spent much of my free time exploring abandoned places where many strange things often lurk. These things have always spurred me to look beyond what is known and sparked a sense of adventure and curiosity within me.

I am a lover of the strange and unusual, collector of rocks, sticks, stones and bones - which often become transformed with paint, glitter and glue. I am an artist, photographer, writer, singer, dancer and a Seer. Much of my creative force has expanded over the years as I have worked to heal (formerly repressed) childhood sexual abuse and rediscover my soul’s own deep longing and purpose. Throughout my healing journey Art has been my constant companion - allowing me to give shape and form to that which is beyond words. Helping me understand myself in new ways and be able to separate myself from the pain and the loops of rage and grief that sometimes pulled me under. Once I was able to give expression to everything that was stuck, it transformed and released which allowed more true expression to flow and allowed me to know myself better.

In addition to art, my path of healing from a traumatic childhood has included a combination of therapy and shamanic practice to address different facets. Therapy was able to help with many things, but was missing some angles and a touch of spiritual connection which is where shamanic practice came in. Through shamanic practice I discovered a greater personal connection to Spirit and to the Earth and was able to feel held and seen in new ways. I found soul retrievals to be especially helpful in being able to move past traumatic events and let go of the emotional charge that had been left behind. The soul retrievals also helped me to connect more deeply with the elements and the earth, and be more in touch with my own gifts and magic. Through this work I have rediscovered my childhood abilities to speak with trees, stones, plants and other nature spirits and reconnected more deeply with the spirits of place and land as well as my own helping spirits.

As I healed myself, I realized there was a longing within me to help others in similar ways so they could also experience greater vitality, more inner peace and deeper connection with the land and spirit. I draw upon many different avenues of study and experience and enjoy helping people re-establish their connection with their innately creative, magical self and coming into greater alignment with the earth and elements.
